Arsenal agreed a deal with Saint-Étienne for William Saliba’s transfer in 2019 and allowed him to spend the last season on loan with the French club.

The 19-year-old has not featured for the Gunners this season, and is now attracting interest from Ligue 1.

According to RMC Sport, Rennes have ‘relaunched’ an effort to sign the centre-back.

They are in the market looking to strengthen their defence, and the north London club’s player is identified as one of the targets.

It’s claimed the French club’s leaders contacted Arsenal a month ago to express their interest in the young defender, but they then received no encouragement from Mikel Arteta’s side.

The FA Cup winners have struggled to offload the centre-backs they wanted to get rid of, which is why, as per the report, they are now open to the idea of allowing Saliba to go out on loan.

This alerted Rennes and they have returned to the possibility of signing the teenager.

RMC Sport, however, adds their great desire is to sign Daniele Rugani and the operation leading to the Juventus defender seems most advanced.

Should a move to Rennes don’t materialise, Saliba could move elsewhere as he is of interest to unnamed clubs in England and Germany.
