Manchester City have already strengthened their defence by signing Nathan Aké from AFC Bournemouth.

The Citizens further want to bolster their back four, and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has been heavily linked with a move to Etihad for most of the window.

Atlético Madrid’s José Giménez has also been identified as a target.

Earlier today, AS reported Pep Guardiola’s side have submitted an €89m bid for the Uruguay international, and the ‘formal offer’ would include an additional payment of €5m in bonuses.

The 25-year-old has a €120m release clause in his contract, but it was suggested Atlético president Miguel Ángel Gil Marín would think about City’s proposal.

The AS report has been relayed by Mundo Deportivo, and they further provide the La Liga side’s stance on the offer.

It’s claimed the ‘response has been no’, and the Spanish side are referring to the player’s €120m termination clause.

Mundo add Atlético are not willing to sell any of their central defenders this summer, and ‘at least not Giménez’.
