If you’ve been following the early stages of transfer deadline day, then you’ll know Liverpool are preparing to be very active.

Two centre-backs are expected to come in, with the first being Ben Davies from Preston North End.

The other one, however, remains a mystery for the time being, although Duje Caleta-Car, currently at Marseille, was one of the targets.

We say ‘was’ because the Ligue 1 side aren’t interested in letting an important member of their squad go this late in the transfer window, and they rejected good money in the process.

That’s according to RMC Sport Mohamed Bouhafsi, who explains Marseille ‘refused €23m from Liverpool’ for the Croatian, and there will be ‘no departure’ in January.

That means he’ll end the campaign in the south of France and most likely be sold next summer, as it’s clear his stock his high and a good second half of the season could go a long way in attracting even more suitors.
