Everton tried to secure a loan deal for PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries this summer but were turned away by the Dutch club.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who say PSV ‘refused to cooperate’ when it came to negotiations over a potential temporary deal.
They explain that Dumfries is set to continue his career at Inter Milan, who have stepped forward to bring the Dutchman to the club.
They have reached an agreement with PSV on a €15m deal with bonuses, with the defender set to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of the move.
They’ve been following Dumfries ‘for a long time’, particularly during the European Championships, when he was a star of the show for the Netherlands.
Everton were also ‘angling’ for his services, and initially, both clubs wanted to bring him in on loan, but PSV ‘refused to cooperate’.
Eindhoven’s owners only wanted to sell Dumfries, and therefore it took some time to get a deal done.
That has now happened because Inter are set to be flush with cash from the sale of Romelu Lukaku, leaving them free to pay for Dumfries, and Everton left wondering what might have been.
