On November 9th, we covered claims from Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg that Nice are interested in Simon Mignolet.
The goalkeeper wanted to leave Liverpool during the summer window and was frustrated when Loris Karius was allowed to go instead.
Mignolet’s annoyance was understandable, he’d been edging himself towards a transfer since the German was signed, and he spoke out publicly about being denied an exit.
In turn, that annoyed Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool manager then rebuked his back-up goalkeeper.
Het Belang van Limburg reported Nice interest for the January window, and presented it as something the Belgian would be keen on.
Things went quiet, but now France Football back it all up.
This week’s edition of the magazine goes further and says there’s been ‘recent contacts’ between the Ligue 1 side and the ‘entourage’ of Mignolet.
Nice ‘has in mind’ to recruit an experienced goalkeeper, and after missing out on Kevin Trapp in the summer, the Liverpool option is the only one named.
Whatever happens between Nice and Mignolet’s entourage, Klopp will obviously have the final say.
