Even though it’s only been two weeks or so, it felt like Matteo Darmian had been forgotten by the Italian press, but Corriere dello Sport rectify that nicely on Thursday.

The last time the Manchester United defender was mentioned, the very same newspaper reported the Red Devils were asking for around €17m for the defender.

The price seemed high, and we suggested that was done on purpose as José Mourinho is having enough trouble picking someone to play down the left of his defence without seeing one of his options disappear midway through the season.

However, Corriere dello Sport reckon Roma are readying an ‘assault’ to bring the Italian defender home by ‘forcing’ Manchester United into agreeing to a loan with a view to buy.

How they are planning to do that isn’t exactly explained, but the promise of a decent sum of money come June might just entice some people on the Old Trafford outfit’s board.

It’s fair to say that, barring the odd impressive performance, it hasn’t worked out between Manchester United and Matteo Darmian, and if the Red Devils can somehow get most of their money back, they’ll probably snatch it before it goes away.
