Chelsea goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović is a ‘hot candidate’ for Bayer Leverkusen, according to Kicker.
The Serbia international joined the Blues from New England Revolution in August 2023 and has been on loan at RC Strasbourg since last summer. As it stands, he’ll return to the west London club after his loan spell with the Ligue 1 club.
Petrović has starred at Strasbourg this season, keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding 30 goals from 27 games.
The Chelsea owned player’s fine displays have convinced the German club to bet on him.
Bayer Leverkusen signed Matěj Kovář from Manchester United in 2023 with a hope he will become their No.1 in the near future. This hasn’t worked out as they hoped for, forcing them to look for a new No.1 in the market.
They are determined to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer window and the 25-year-old is the main target. Kicker state Bayer Leverkusen are ‘prepared to spend a lot of money’, without mentioning any figures, to secure his services.
Enzo Maresca has used Robert Sánchez and Filip Jörgensen as the two goalkeepers this season and they haven’t been convincing. It’s unclear if Chelsea will promote Petrović as the No.1 or look for other options next season.
Bayer Leverkusen are awaiting Chelsea’s final decision and depending on that, they will know whether they can sign Petrović or look for another goalkeeper.
