With many stories in England suggesting Tottenham could be going after a new centre-back in January, hope has been given to AS Roma.

That’s because the Serie A side are interested in Eric Dier to bolster their own defence, and multiple stories have stated a move for him could be made in January if Spurs open a door.

The arrival of a new centre-back at Tottenham would certainly do that, and AS Roma Live reiterate the desire from Italy to sign the England international.

They explain that while many profiles are of interest to José Mourinho’s side, Dier is ‘at the top’ of the list of preferred players.

As always, it’s because the Portuguese manager knows him well, and the belief is him staying at Tottenham beyond January is ‘rather difficult’.

That’s why AS Roma are ‘ready to take him’ in the next transfer window, most likely for a small fee, as his contract in London expires at the end of the season.

While he was forgotten man in the early stages of the season, Dier has been used a bit more of late by Ange Postecoglou, more out of necessity than anything following the injury to Micky van de Ven and the suspension of Cristian Romero.
