Russian media outlet Tass reports Zenit are willing to ‘soften’ their stance on Nicolas Lombaerts, as long as they can secure a deal to sign Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea.

West Brom have been linked to Lombaerts by the Scottish Sun, and if those claims are correct then Tony Pulis shouldn’t have too much trouble signing the player.

Even without Ivanovic, Zenit have been considering a sale, but with only several Belgium clubs interested, the finances of a deal weren’t good enough to satisfy the Russians.

West Brom would be able to put together a much better deal and therefore wouldn’t find too many barriers in the way of signing the player.

Lombaerts is 31 years of age and after the current season will have just one more left on his contract at Zenit.  Left footed, Lombaerts would fit into Tony Pulis’ West Brom squad primarily as a central defender, but he can also play at left back.
