While the football world is currently in the process of suspending or cancelling competitions, with some countries taking longer than others, clubs still have to think about the future, and that includes their players’ contracts.

This is something Napoli are having to deal with with Arkadiusz Milik, whose deal with the Serie A club ends in 2021.

His contractual situation has led to the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham being linked with the striker, as Aurelio De Laurentiis tries his best to convince the Poland international to put pen to paper and extend his stay in the south of Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport explain there is currently no agreement between player and club regarding the salary or the release clause, which Napoli want to set at €80m while the player would prefer €50m.

The latter is the price De Laurentiis would be ‘ready to sell him for’, but they know full well that if they make it higher, they’ll have wiggle room for negotiations with rich clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham.

Of course, Spurs and the Gunners have far greater issues to deal with right now, especially the latter after Mikel Arteta was diagnosed with Covid-19, but there will still be people working behind the scenes on this kind of stuff.

Football may be suspended for the foreseeable future, but it hasn’t been cancelled altogether and will restart at some point.
