On Tuesday, we covered a small tidbit from Italy about Denis Zakaria and his potential transfer from Juventus to West Ham United.
With no Declan Rice official confirmation, meaning Arsenal’s money has yet to land in the Hammers’ bank account, the London side are pushing for a lower deal.
It was stated that a final effort was needed from West Ham to get the deal over the line, and Corriere dello Sport back that up on Wednesday.
They state David Moyes’ side are still ‘trying to whittle down’ the demands from the initial €25m set by Juventus, while new director of football Cristiano Giuntoli is ‘ready to close’ at €20-21m, ‘but no less’.
Down their end, West Ham have only ‘reached €17m’, but that doesn’t mean they are going to stop there, as they ‘continue to negotiate’.
For now, the deal is ‘reported as alive’, meaning the Hammers are still targeting the Switzerland international to bolster their midfield once Rice is sent to the other side of London for a very, very large fee.
Zakaria is now back at Juventus following his rather unsuccessful loan spell at Chelsea last season, where he failed to fully convince Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.
