Italian side Monza are ‘ready to bet’ on Watford defender Samir this summer if they cannot sign Marlon from Shakhtar Donetsk.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say the defender could be set for a quick return to Italian football.
Samir joined Watford in a £4.5m deal from Udinese in the January transfer window in another Pozzo special deal between the two clubs.
He went on to establish himself in the heart of Watford’s defence, making 19 appearances between January and the end of the season.
He was unable to help them avoid relegation, though, and with something of a rebuild planned at Vicarage road this summer, could now be set for a move away.
Gazzetta report that Monza are eyeing up the 27-year-old as they look to strengthen their defence for next season.
Their number one target is Shakhtar Donetsk defender Marlon, but if a deal for him proves to be impossible to get over the line, they will turn their attention to Samir.
He’s a player who knows Italian football well after spells with Hellas Verona and Udinese and thus an ideal option if they can’t get Marlon.
Whether Watford are open to a deal isn’t mentioned, or how much they’d ask for if they are, just that he’s a potential target for Monza this summer.
