Bad news for Manchester United fans hoping that Matteo Darmian could be sold to Juventus in the near future.
The Italy international has, for the past couple of months, been so close to joining the Serie A champions, only to see Ed Woodward and co.’s demands for his services force his Italian counterparts into a corner.
Now reported by Gazzetta dello Sport as wanting €25m for Darmian, the Red Devils face the possibility of Juventus backing away from a deal for now, after deciding to lump a chunk of their cash on Valencia’s Joao Cancelo.
However, putting the deal on hold doesn’t mean they’ve completely walked away, as the Italian newspaper state ‘it is not excluded that, in the folds of the market, Beppe Marotta doesn’t attempt a new assault on the Manchester United player’.
The reason for that would be that ‘the passage of time’ could lead to José Mourinho’s side softening their stance on the €25m valuation.
Still, this isn’t good news for a deal that seemed as good as done a few weeks ago.
