Inter Milan are ‘pushing’ to sign Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta and negotiations are ‘very hot’ at this moment in time.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who say the player and Inter’s talks have ‘come to a head’ and he could be on the way to Italy.
They explain that Inter had initially been targeting Real Madrid’s Nacho, but he decided to stay in Spain, and they were forced to pivot.
However, during the negotiations with his agents, an operation for Azpilicueta ‘was born’ instead and negotiations with Chelsea have been ongoing for several weeks.
Inter have already proposed a contract worth €3.5m per year, initially offering a two-year contract with the option of a third.
They are now trying to work out whether the player can be released from his deal at Chelsea or if the will need to pay some form of compensation.
It is ‘conceivable’ that Chelsea could release the player just to get him off of the wage bill and his agents are now working on commissions and possible bonuses. Inter would like to pay between €2-3m in total.
Azpilicueta has already given his approval to the negotiation as the Inter hypothesis is agreeable to him and the margins are there for a deal to be closed in the coming weeks.
