Unable to find a space for himself at Aston Villa under either Steven Gerrard and Unai Emery, Morgan Sanson eventually got some game time out on loan in France.
The midfielder was sent to RC Strasbourg for the second half of the last campaign, where he excelled and left a lasting impression.
There was talk that he could even stay there, but L’Equipe in France are claiming another club are ‘pushing’ to sign the Aston Villa flop.
That team are Lille, who have sent André Gomes back to Everton and need a new midfielder to make up for his exit.
Strasbourg are still ‘hoping to sign’ Sanson after their stint together, but Paulo Fonseca’s side are said to be ‘one step ahead’ of their league competitors.
Sanson, down his end, is ‘evaluating the possibility’ of staying in Ligue 1, where he has previously done well with Marseille, Montpellier and most recently the Alsatian side.
Lille are ‘very interested’, can offer some Conference League football, but would like a loan, while taking on some of his wages (not all), and include an option to buy.
Something for Aston Villa and Sanson to think about.
