With the English media this week writing that Liverpool are interested in the signing of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, the Portuguese press today comes up with a response.

Reacting to the news, newspaper A Bola points out that even though the Eagles wouldn’t like to negotiate the player’s exit, there is, of course, a price for him to leave.

It’s said Benfica are going through a small financial issue which will be solved with one big sale. And with Nunez being their biggest star at the moment, he’s the obvious solution.

According to A Bola, the Eagles had already turned down €45m plus €15m in bonuses from West Ham in January, and now, they wouldn’t even let Darwin go for less than €60m or €70m.

The newspaper points out it ‘makes sense’ that Jurgen Klopp goes after Nunez now. Firstly, because Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have their contracts expiring in 2023 and will all soon be over 30. Also, Liverpool had ‘good experiences’ when signing the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

Darwin Nunez has scored 25 goals this season, and Liverpool seem to be only the last of a long list of clubs who’ve been interested in signing him recently.
