Alexis Sánchez’s decision to join Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United hasn’t been a success.

A foot injury kept the Chilean out of action from October until the second week of January.

Since regaining full fitness, the forward has made 11 appearances in all competitions, failing to score even once and registering one assist in the process.

The Nerazzurri will take on Sampdoria when the Serie A resumes and Sky Italia claim the Red Devils owned player could start the league tie on Sunday.

The 2019/20 season will be delayed due to the Covid-19 crisis and therefore, Inter are negotiating a deal with United to retain Sánchez until the end of the campaign.

During the talks between the two clubs, Inter also probed the possibility of extending the player’s loan stay for one more season. This would mean Antonio Conte’s side will not exercise the option to make the 31-year-old’s transfer permanent this summer.

The report explains there are ‘economic obstacles’, starting with the South American’s salary, but the ‘track is not considered impossible’.

Sánchez’s stay at the San Siro beyond this season would largely depend on how he performs in the remaining fixtures of this campaign.
