Earlier on Friday, it was announced that Chelsea had seen their second attempt to get Andrey Santos a work permit denied.
That means the player is now left with no choice but to head back to Brazil on loan or try and push to stay in England until the end of the season.
We covered early reports that two clubs in his home country have the player’s preference to date, and those are Palmeiras and Internacional, while Corinthians are seen as outsiders.
Well, there’s also Vasco de Gama, the club he was bought from, and Globo Esporte report they are ‘monitoring the situation’ of their former player, but it’s made clear from the off that Chelsea’s preference would be to send the midfielder to a club that plays in the Libertadores, as this would guarantee him the necessary requirements to get a work permit at the next attempt.
That’s not great news for them, and that’s all despite the fact Vasco ‘inserted a clause that ensures priority’ in their favour if the Blues decided to loan him out.
The problem there is that this ‘would not be enough’, because it’s Andrey who ‘has the final word in the decision about his fate’.
Those around the Chelsea player ‘understand that it’s better’ for him to play in the Libertadores, which Vasco are not a part of, as this guarantees three points on the work visa, and he only needs one going forward.
While Série A in general would also work, it’s fair to say that playing the South American competition is more of a guarantee.
In the meantime, Vasco ‘await the decision of the player and his staff’.
