On January 3rd, we covered new Athletic Club Bilbao president Aitor Elizegi’s interview with AS, where he admitted he is unaware what it means to “negotiate with Tottenham” Hotspur.

The Basque club’s chief made these comments when asked about his side’s interest in signing Fernando Llorenete in January and the striker has also expressed his desire to return to San Mames.

Since Elizegi became the new president, Rafael Alkorta was appointed as the new director of sports and the idea of the new leaders of the club was to make two signings in January – Ibai Gomez and the former Swansea City man.

Gomez’s deal has been completed and today’s edition of AS claims Elizegi’s desire to have the north London club’s player in Bilbao ‘as soon as possible’.

During his previous spell at the La Liga outfit, Llorente provided the goods and has continued to do so when given minutes at Spurs.

His return will strengthen the Spanish side’s attack, but they must deal with the Premier League club to get the deal over the line.

He has six months left on his contract and the report claims Tottenham are now willing to negotiate the 33-year-old’s sale in January.

Whether the two clubs will be able to find an agreement or not is to be seen.
