Everton fans probably remember that right after selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, the Merseyside club were linked to Raul Jimenez from Benfica.
The Portuguese press always said that the price for the Mexican striker would be pretty high, with claims saying from €40m to €50m. Even a €45m bid was reported.
Raul Jimenez spent the last season on the bench of Jonas and Konstantinos Mitroglou, so it was hard to imagine Everton spending that much on a reserve player, and it obviously did not happen.
With two goals and one assist this season, Jimenez is having some decent performances, and that’s why newspaper Correio da Manhã has a story today saying he’s threatening to take Haris Seferovic’s place in attack.
That’s when they bring Everton up again, saying that the English press is back on linking him to the club.
Then the newpaper claims to have learned that manager Rui Vitória doesn’t want to let Jimenez go, but president Luis Filipe Vieira has other thoughts, and would sell in case a bid of €50m arrives.
But would the striker’s couple of goals this season be enough to convince Everton? We don’t think so, at least not for that price.
