Despite the many requests from fans, Grêmio president Romildo Bolzan Júnior has ruled out the return of Lucas Leiva to the club.
Grêmio have been receiving many messages asking for Leiva’s signing since they’ve sold their Olympic gold winner midfielder Wallace to Hamburg this week.
As Lucas Leiva is likely to leave Liverpool soon, the Brazilian club’s fans picked him as a perfect target due to the player’s great history at Grêmio.
But speaking to UOL on Wednesday, Romildo Bolzan Junior said: “We don’t have any negotiations or possibilities of investing on him at the moment. There’s nothing.”
Leiva’s contract at Liverpool is expiring in the summer, and even though he was heavily linked to a January move, the player has stayed on Merseyside.
As the midfielder will probably be leaving the club for free in June, then maybe there’ll be time for Grêmio to make an attempt. However, the wages paid in Europe are always something hard for Brazilian clubs to compete with.
