A couple of weeks ago, we covered claims from Catalonia saying Barcelona were ‘one step’ from signing Taílson from Santos.
The confident report from Sport said the player was a free agent, and all Barça would have to pay would is €350k training compensation.
But speaking to Gazeta Esportiva this Monday, Santos president José Carlos Peres has claimed the Brazilian club could end up holding the youngster.
He says he’s working on renewing Tailson’s contract, and claims they had to ‘threaten’ Barcelona regarding the signing. That’s why the Catalan side ended up apologising for their actions.
“The amount was high. If I renew with the high demand, everyone else will want it,” José Carlos Peres told Gazeta Esportiva.
“Tailson went to Barcelona, we notified them and made a threat to cut our relationship. Not to mention notifying CBF and Barcelona. It’s not fair to arrive after years at the academy and take him to Europe. Barcelona made a letter of apology. And he has already returned to Brazil.”
Santos claim they should have a priority for the player’s renewal, since he’s now turning 18 and the law protects the current club. However, according to Gazeta Esportiva, Taílson’s agents believe he’s free to sign for Barcelona.
They’re meeting Santos this week to try to get the situation sorted.
