It’s been a big saga for Sporting to finally confirm their agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the transfer of Rui Patrício, and even though it still hasn’t been made official, club president Frederico Varandas has spoken about it.
Interviewed by Portuguese outlet Expresso, Varandas wasn’t afraid of saying how much Wolves are paying for the goalkeeper, and has even revealed the part that goes to agent Jorge Mendes.
“Wolverhampton pay 18 million euros for Rui Patrício and Sporting get 14 million euros, the other four million will be for intermediaries,” Varandas told Expresso (via Mais Futebol).
Varandas has even claimed how much each party has given up so the deal could be made. According to him, Gestifute wanted seven million, but accepted four. Patrício gave up on one million he had from his contract with Sporting, and another five million which would be his signing prize for Wolves as a free agent.
“It wasn’t easy, and I can’t explain everything,” said Varandas, who’s now looking to solve the issues from other players who left Sporting for free this year. “Rui Patrício is closed, now to Gelson.”
