Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered reports from Brazil which claimed both Fulham and West Ham United are interested in São Paulo defender Luizão.
The 20-year-old, whose contract with the Tricolor expires in January, is already able to sign a pre-deal with any club to make the move in the winter. However, the rumours have been about a summer move, with clubs wanting him now.
Globo Esporte today features a long interview with São Paulo president Julio Casares. And even though most of the chat was about how they’ll use the money made from their sell-on clause with Antony’s transfer from Ajax to Manchester United, he was asked about Luizão as well.
The outlet was very straightforward in its question, asking if there’s been any offers from Fulham or West Ham for the defender so far.
“No proposal. Sometimes people have to understand that there’s a poll. From Fulham, I’m sure there isn’t. The poll is sometimes speculation that comes from an agent, for example. Now, proposal, from the club, directly, I didn’t receive anything, nobody received anything,” said Casares.
If no one buys Luizão this week, which seems like the most scenario, then São Paulo will certainly spend the next few months doing everything they can to convince him to sign a new contract. Meanwhile, Fulham and West Ham can try to sign him on a free in January.
