As River Plate enjoy having Julian Alvarez at the club for a few more months, the Argentine media continues to have many stories about the striker’s farewell this summer.
The striker is set to join Manchester City, as despite the hope that the Buenos Aires side would manage to keep him for longer, there’s nothing they can do to stop the move now.
The subject was now detailed by River Plate president Jorge Brito. In an interview with Radio La Red, he explained the exact date when Alvarez is expected to be changing clubs.
“When we started negotiations with City, we put a clause for July 7th and it was no accident. It is so that he can play the second match of the round-of-16 of the Copa Libertadores,” said Brito (via La Pagina Millonaria).
“The right they have is to pay one and a half million euros to take him away. From what I’ve been hearing, even from Pep Guardiola himself, I think they’re going to exercise it, but they haven’t communicated with us yet. Until it arrives in writing, it’s an assumption.”
Julian Alvarez was also a subject this week on TyC Sports, where former national team striker Abel Balbo had a few words to say on Manchester City’s new signing.
The ex-played showed great confidence in what the 22-year-old can do in the Premier League, pointing out that Pep Guardiola’s side is actually perfect for him to adapt well.
“Manchester City is the ideal team for Julián. What’s more, I would say that it’s the only English team he can play for, due to his physical characteristics. City play like a Spanish or a South American team, and that for him is going to be of much help.”
