Sporting president Frederico Varandas has given Portuguese newspaper Record a huge interview, mostly speaking about the transfer market.

The official explained all the incoming and outgoing transfers which the Lions have made and will make, and that’s why it became a six-page story.

One of the players in this process is Matheus Pereira, who’s currently having a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

Asked about the players who are returning from loan or not, Record quizzed Varandas about Pereira, and the president has admitted that it’s unlikely he’ll return to the club in the summer.

“West Brom have a purchase option. If he plays 30 games, that’s €10m. It’s a good deal for the reality of Sporting.”

Matheus Pereira has 27 appearances for the club so far, 26 of them in the Championship. Although he’s currently suspended, he’s very close to reaching that amount of games and making the transfer automatic.

The Brazilian’s quick impact for the Baggies, with five goals and 14 assists so far, actually makes it a great deal for the Championship side.
