Just over a week or so ago, a picture circulated with many claiming that Eliaquim Mangala was in Lyon to talk about a potential transfer from Manchester City.

The once most expensive defender in the world spent last season away from the Etihad on loan at Valencia, and despite claims the La Liga side were looking for a way to make the move permanent, that doesn’t seem to be happening.

On Tuesday night, Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas was invited on Canal+ Sport, where he discussed many things, from Alexandre Lacazette’s situation to a potential move for Eliaquim Mangala.

He said, relayed by MaxiFoot: “Mangala isn’t too expensive, no. Lyon is in a healthy financial state, which allows us to look at some of the best footballers. We need favourable circumstances, but Mangala is included in the players that interest us. We’ve already met with him”.

So, it appears the Manchester City defender was indeed in Lyon to have a chat with the Ligue 1 club about a potential move.

What’s also interesting here is that, while Lyon might be in a ‘healthy financial state’, they certainly won’t want to be paying the €40m+ the Citizens spent on Mangala in the first place.

L’Equipe said a few days back that €20m would be too much for Lyon, but if their president is to be believed, that might not be the case.
