Lyon’s interest in buying Manchester United’s Memphis Depay seems to have snowballed over the past week or so, and the French club are making no secret of their desire to sign the player.

Originally more strongly linked with taking Adnan Januzaj, the situation appears to have changed and Lyon are now progressing with talks for Manchester United’s Dutch attacker.

Depay has been linked with a string of clubs in the past couple of months, but it appears to be Lyon who are making the most effort to get a deal done in January. They have doubts of the future of Rachid Ghezzal, with the winger’s contract ending in June, so a move for Depay makes some sense.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has never been one to shy away from transfer talk, and this weekend confirmed on Twitter that their efforts to sign Depay are progressing.

Aulas also said that the French club are trying everything, so that way there’ll be no regrets whether they sign the Manchester United player or not.

Signing Depay would be a big deal for Lyon, and would also represent a good move for the Manchester United outcast. The January transfer window is now halfway through, so a deal would only have 2 weeks to be completed.
