Following the freshest rumours claiming Fluminense want to sign Thiago Silva from Chelsea, their president has now come forward to confirm their will.

As Mario Bittencourt this week had a conversation with TNT Sports, he was asked whether the Tricolor will really come for the 39-year-old next year.

The club president confirmed that they’ll try to sign Silva and will count on their support for the club to help them with the operation.

“I continue with this desire to bring him in. For the brilliant player he is, for his high performance at his age. That he’s a great Tricolor. I’m sure that one day he could play for Fluminense again,” said Bittencourt.

This week, we’ve seen reports from Brazil claiming Silva has ‘negotiations underway’ to leave Chelsea and join Fluminense.

The defender’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season, and the chances of a January move are said to be low, as it’s more likely he joins the Rio de Janeiro club as a free agent.

Thiago Silva had always claimed he wanted to retire at Fluminense, and at the age of 39, it’s probably about time for him to fulfil that dream. The club have just won the Copa Libertadores and that only increased his will, although his commitment to Chelsea stops him for now.
