Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has been left reeling after Manchester United stole Villarreal defender Pau Torres from his grasp.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who say Pérez is ‘very angry’ at developments around the Spanish centre back.
Torres has been in impressive form for Villarreal this season, so much so that he is likely to be first choice for Spain at this summer’s European championships.
His performances haven’t gone unnoticed by potential suitors either, with Manchester United thought to be eyeing the centre back in their hunt for a long-term partner for Harry Maguire.
Indeed, reports in England this week indicated that Torres would be ‘interested’ in the move to Old Trafford, and that has annoyed Real Madrid supremo Pérez.
El Desmarque report that he ‘cannot believe’ that Manchester United have ‘stolen’ Torres away, having ‘earmarked’ the defender as the replacement for Sergio Ramos, should he fail to sign a new deal at the Bernabeu and leave this summer.
Despite the interest Madrid have shown in him, the defender ‘seems determined’ to move to the Premier League, at least as far as the reports in England are concerned.
That’s left Pérez fuming as he looks set to miss out on a player whose price rises ‘like foam’ with each passing day.
