Sevilla president José Castro has shared his ‘liking’ for Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso but insisted a move is not necessarily on the cards.
Lo Celso is expected to leave Tottenham this summer after spending the second half of last season on loan with Villarreal.
He established himself as a key player under Unai Emery, playing a starring role in their run to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
That loan deal didn’t include a purchase clause, meaning he has returned to Tottenham this summer, albeit on a short-term basis.
Both the player and Spurs would like to find him a new club in this window, and Lo Celso has subsequently been linked to several in La Liga.
One of those are Sevilla, who are expected to undergo something of a rebuild this summer as several stars depart and director of football Monchi reinvests in new signings.
Lo Celso would certainly fit in, and their president has admitted he is a fan of the Tottenham man, although he refused to add fuel to the transfer rumour fire.
“Lo Celso? He’s a magnificent player… but that doesn’t mean anything. I’m just saying he’s a good player. That’s it… the signings, (they’re) for Monchi,” ABC Sevilla report him saying.
The newspaper, though, adds that Sevilla have been tracking Lo Celso since he was playing in Argentina with Rosario Central.
That means he’s a player who they’ve liked for a while, and, although the focus is on outgoings, for the time being, he’s surely a player they’ll take a look at.
Castro has certainly hinted as much in his comments, and with Tottenham open to a sale, perhaps now is the time to finally get their man.
