With Lucas Torreira off their books, Arsenal’s next priority in the offloading department this summer is likely going to be Willian.

The Brazilian is clearly unhappy at the Emirates, and Mikel Arteta doesn’t appear overly keen to keep on using him, so the best for all parties appears to be a parting of ways.

One of the most interested clubs to land the player are Corinthians in Brazil, although a lot would have to happen for them to get their man.

Globo Esporte in Brazil have an update on the situation, explaining the Brazilian side have ‘presented a proposal’ to the winger, with the player knowing ‘the salaries and contractual conditions that Corinthians can give him’.

The ideal scenario would be for him to sign permanently ‘in case he amicably terminates his contract with Arsenal’, but Corinthians are also ‘open to negotiating a loan’, although for that to happen, the Gunners ‘would have to take on a good part of the wages, which is not on the agenda at the moment’.

They then recall that Willian ‘welcomes a possible return to the club of his heart, but prioritises staying in Europe’ for the time being, meaning he is now ‘awaiting offers from the Old Continent’.

With the Brazil market closing on Monday, ‘the deadline for a definition is short’, and it will be up to Kia Joorabchian, the player’s manager, to try and get something sorted with Arsenal, who are ‘willing to help him find a new club’ following a conversation with Edu where he ‘exposed a series of dissatisfaction with the club’s sporting project that motivated him to ask to leave’.

We’ll have to wait and see what comes of all this, but Corinthians are now waiting.
