Following his move on loan from the Emirates to Napoli, David Ospina’s stock in Europe has steadily increased, to the point where the Serie A side are going to turn him into their player no matter what.
Currently in direct competition with Orestis Karnezis and Alex Meret, who has returned from his broken arm, the Colombia international could be tempted to look elsewhere for first-team football, yet he’s so happy with his new club, he wants to stay.
His father revealed as much a week or so ago, and Napoli, according to Corriere dello Sport, are going to make the deal permanent in the very near future.
It was revealed back in mid November the Arsenal loanee had a clause in the deal with the Serie A side that would see them automatically pay a fee for a full transfer after 25 appearances, but Aurelio de Laurentiis isn’t going to wait that long.
The Italian newspaper explain Napoli will ‘anticipate’ the move, as they ‘really believe in him’, and the 30-year-old is expected to play in the Europa League while Meret gets league duty, having started three of the past four games.
Not an ideal situation for Ospina, but it’s certainly better than being stuck behind Bernd Leno and Petr Cech at Arsenal.
