Barcelona chief Mateu Alemany is planning a trip to London next week to finally seal a move for Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta.
That’s according to Sport, who say the ‘final and definitive offensive’ for the Spaniard is already underway.
The newspaper reports that with the signing of Jules Koundé now secured, Barcelona’s sporting directors are focusing their efforts on sorting the last issue in the squad; the full-backs.
Alemany and Jordi Cruyff have ‘drawn up a strategy’ to bring in Azpilicueta, who is the desired right back this summer.
A final a definitive offensive is now planned, with Alemany set to travel to London next week to make a ‘convincing proposal’ to Chelsea.
It will not be easy to talk the Blues into a sale, particularly after Chelsea have watched two of their targets, Raphinha and Koundé, move to the Camp Nou in recent weeks.
Relations with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly are not as good as they could be but there is optimism nonetheless.
Thus a trip to London and Stamford Bridge has been planned, during which Barcelona will also hold talks over Azpilicueta’s Chelsea teammate Marcos Alonso.
Similarly, the Blues will be able to ask about Frenkie de Jong, although the Dutchman’s situation is not progressing how the Catalans would like.
