Juventus will ask Everton for a discount on the €28m they owe to sign Moise Kean on a permanent basis next summer.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say not all the conditions have been met for that obligatory clause to be activated.
They report that ‘not all the conditions have yet matured’ on the loan deal for Kean, who re-joined his former club on a two-year loan in 2021.
That loan deal included an initial €7m loan fee and a near-obligatory €28m fee for next summer, which Juventus have been trying to get out of since.
That’s because Kean has struggled to replicate his old form, or the performances he showed on loan at Paris Saint German, and the Italian club are not all that keen on spending a relatively big figure on him.
They spent last summer negotiating with Everton in an attempt to get out of the agreement, essentially putting Kean on the market in the hope someone would pay a similar fee for him and allow them to activate the clause early and then move him on.
No such offer arrived, and Everton would not let them break the deal, essentially happy to wait until the summer of 2023 and take their money.
Juventus remain less than keen to pay that fee despite an upturn in form for Kean in recent weeks and Gazzetta report today they are still working on how to avoid it.
According to their information, ‘not all the conditions have yet matured’ that will require them to pay the €28m sum to Everton.
Thus, their plan is to ‘ask for a discount’ from Everton, before then deciding whether to buy back the player in the summer as planned or sell him on if they receive any ‘interesting offers’.
Much will depend on the player’s performances. He has impressed in recent weeks and earned back Max Allegri’s trust but the ‘decisive months’ will be from January onwards once the window is open.
Either way, it seems Everton have to brace themselves for more negotiations, with Juventus seemingly convinced they don’t have to pay that €28m figure.
