Bayern Munich are planning ‘another round of talks‘ with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen’s entourage in the ‘coming days’ in an effort to beat Barcelona to his signature.
That’s according to Sport 1, who say the German champions are ‘not giving up’ in the tug-of-war for the Danish star.
As we’re sure you’re aware by this point, Christensen is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer and looking unlikely to sign an extension to his deal.
That means he is free to negotiate with clubs around Europe regarding a free transfer, and recent reports have put Barcelona at the front of the queue.
They are reportedly confident that they have done enough to secure Christensen’s signature, but it seems Bayern have not given up the chase just yet.
They need a replacement for Niklas Süle and have been linked to Christensen but appeared to have pulled away as the defender edged towards Barcelona.
However, Sport 1 report that they are ‘not giving up’ just yet and ‘another round of talks’ are ‘planned in the coming days’.
Thus, everything points to a ‘transfer duel’ between Barcelona and Bayern for the Chelsea man, something they believe holds ‘explosive potential’.
That’s courtesy of the poor relationship between the two clubs, with Catalan’s efforts to form the Super League having annoyed the Munich club.
In turn, they’ve irritated their counterparts at the Nou Camp with approaches for several Barcelona stars, namely Pedri and Sergino Dest.
Thus the pair aren’t on the best of terms and now look set to renew hostilities over Christensen, who they both want to pinch from Chelsea on a free this summer.
