Leeds United’s offer for Angers star Azzedine Ounahi continues to be a cause for concern in the Italian media.

As journalist Ciro Venerato spoke to RAI about Napoli’s chase for the player, he explained that the Whites really lead the race at this point.

It had already been reported by the very same source that Leeds are offering €25m for the transfer, besides putting on the table a salary worth €2.5m per season.

Those numbers are believed to be the best offered to Angers and Ounahi himself so far. And according to this last update from Venerato, Napoli are struggling to match that.

“As far as Ounahi is concerned , Leeds have formulated a higher offer,” said Ciro Venerato (via Area Napoli).

“But the blue club hope that the player will not accept despite the offer of €2.5m. Everything is very open, but the Neapolitan club seem to be a bit pessimistic at the moment.”

What seems to hold Napoli’s hopes is that, according to a few reports in the Italian media in the past week, the player had approved a move to the Italian side.

However, even the local press now acknowledge the fact that Leeds lead the race for Ounahi, and with Napoli looking unlikely to outbid the Whites, the player indeed looks closer to a move to Elland Road.
