It was widely reported Chelsea were interested in signing AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli in the summer, but the Serie A club were reluctant to sell him. It was claimed Antonio Conte is keen on bringing the Italian defender to Stamford Bridge, but nothing materialised in the end.
A few days ago, Italian website Calciomercato reported Chelsea offered more than €35m for Romagnoli in the summer, and are already formulating an offer of over €40m for January.
According to a latest report on Calciomercato, AC Milan are keen on offering Romagnoli a new contract next year in response to Chelsea’s interest.
Calciomercato say Chelsea sought Romagnoli last summer with insistence and AC Milan have built a ‘bulletproof’ wall.
Calciomercato, however, don’t repeat their earlier claim that Chelsea plan to bid for him again in January. Chelsea have been the best defensive side in the Premier League this season, and maybe Antonio Conte would like to wait until the summer before making any defensive reinforcements.
