Promise Lazio a bit of money and they can’t help but dream big. That’s just who they are.

This is, at least, what Il Messaggero are claiming on Monday, as they look at where the money the Serie A side are likely to get for Wesley Hoedt and Keita Baldé.

Number one on the list is Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini, who arrived at St Mary’s from Napoli in January for over £15m.

Before you all start laughing your heads off, you should know that Il Messaggero acknowledge that even Lazio think it’s a bit of a long shot.

Still, considering the Serie A side are currently still in talks with Southampton regarding the aforementioned Dutch defender, bringing it up, as long as they’re OK with rejection, costs absolutely nothing.

The 25-year-old has apparently been a target for Lazio since the days when he was co-owned by Atalanta and Juventus (around 2012), but an attempt to sign him back then didn’t end well, with the clubs falling out over a broken promise.

Il Messaggero state Claudio Lotito, Lazio’s owner, knows this would be an extremely difficult deal to pull off, but that isn’t stopping from some close to him urging him to give it a go.

We can’t see him getting very far.
