The longer Malaga wait to actually offer Ignacio Camacho a renewal, the more likely it is he’ll be leaving the club in the next window.
West Brom tried to sign Camacho during the summer transfer window, but didn’t want to pay his €18m clause upfront, preferring a deal weighted on clauses. Malaga had gone public with Camacho’s request to leave for West Brom, but the transfer collapsed over the fee.
When the summer window closed, Malaga said they’d be offering Camacho a new deal, but that hasn’t happened yet and a few days ago the midfielder said: “When nothing is signed, the words are taken by the wind. Commitment? They talked about situations. But they will have their way of thinking and I will have mine.”
Camacho also talked about Valencia interest, but said: “It is true that there were calls, but the clearest route was West Brom.”
Malaga’s owner Abdullah Al-Thani has over the weekend denied that Valencia ever made an offer, taking to Twitter to clear things up.
Al-Thani was first talking to followers in Arabic about Camacho’s situation, and then added a comment in English after he thought a journalist had misunderstood.
Dear @Dani_Merono i think your

There is no real offer so please be 🤐— Abdullah N Al Thani (@ANAALThani) February 12, 2017
With Valencia not bothering to make an offer, with claims they wanted to pay as little as €10m, it leaves West Brom still in the driving seat for a summer deal. The Tony Pulis target is living through a strained time at Malaga, and West Brom may well be able to negotiate down from the €18m clause.
