As the competition for the signing of Matthijs de Ligt goes on, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla brings an interesting update on the battle between Bayern Munich and Chelsea for the defender.

The journalist recalls it was the Blues who moved first, with an offer worth €70m plus bonuses. It turns out, however, the German side have been in contact since the start of the month, and have now made their offer.

He claims Bayern Munich outbid Chelsea by placing an offer consisting of €75m plus €5m in bonuses. With Juventus demanding €80m upfront, it remains to be seen if the Bundesliga giants will be able to raise that value, and ‘especially’ if the Stamford Bridge side can offer more as well.

Pedulla makes it clear it’s ‘the offer that will make the difference’, as Juventus plan to sell to the highest bidder. Even though the Old Lady may have no preference, the story also highlights that De Ligt’s agent has an ‘excellent relationship’ with the German club.

So if Chelsea want to stay alive in the race, it seems they must finally get to the price demanded by Juve. Otherwise, they may look at other targets, as they continue to be linked to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
