Barcelona are ‘negotiating’ with Chelsea for Marcos Alonso and are ‘very optimistic’ that they can get a deal over the line.
That’s according to Cadena SER, who cover the player’s future today and say Alonso ‘has an agreement’ with Chelsea to leave the club this summer.
They explain that Barcelona are keen to reinforce their options at left-back and have chosen Alonso as the man to do so, with Sique Rodríguez, Santi Ovalle and Bruno Alemany explaining as much to Què T’hi Jugues.
They’ve heard from sources at Barcelona and close to the Chelsea player that ‘negotiations are underway’, with those from the Catalan club stating they are ‘very optimistic’ something will be finalised.
Alonso’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2023, and sources close to the operation have ‘assured’ the website that the player has an agreement with those in charge at Chelsea to ‘facilitate’ a transfer if he asks for it in the final year of his deal.
Returning to La Liga is appealing to the Spaniard, who told El Larguero last October that he is keen on the idea.
“I am very well there, and also, before retiring, I would like to have the opportunity to play in LaLiga,” he said at the time.
“It is not something that I feel urgency; I am very well in a great team and fighting for big titles. I have two years on my contract, and we’ll see what happens in the future.”
It appears that is something that he still wants to make an eventuality, and talks are underway with Barcelona for a move this summer.
