Just a few days ago, it was reported in the Italian media that there was a possibility of Andreas Pereira staying at Lazio.
It was a bit of a surprising one, since the midfielder had struggled away from Manchester United in Italy, failing to make a spot for himself in Simone Inzaghi’s squad.
That manager has now left, however, and Maurizio Sarri is set to replace him, with the former Chelsea man seemingly keen on the idea of working with the Red Devils player.
Corriere della Sera corroborate the idea he could stay in Rome an extra year, claiming that Lazio ‘have opened a channel with Manchester United to obtain the renewal of Andreas Pereira’s loan’.
It’s made clear the player ‘would like to compete under another manager’ at a club where he enjoyed himself despite the few opportunities handed to him.
Igli Tare, the Lazio director of football, ‘rates him’, and ‘the intention is to give him a new opportunity’, even if it might be as a backup to the starters.
