There’s a claim in the Turkish media Fenerbahce could be open to selling Martin Skrtel to Rangers.
The 33 year old Slovakian is reportedly a target of new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. Last week Gerrard was confirmed as Grahame Murty’s replacement at Ibrox, and it’s led to a string of players with Liverpool connections being linked with Rangers.
Skrtel has been one of the most consistent players at Fenerbahce since joining from Liverpool in 2015 and has emerged as a favourite with the Yellow Canary fans.
According to Sporx the final call will be made by Fenerbahce manager Aykut Kocaman as to whether Skrtel moves to Rangers.
Skrtel is one the highest earners at Fenerbahce, so they are not completely against a deal with Rangers.
Sporx say Skrtel’s latest Instagram post, which was directed towards Rangers manager Gerrard has caused anxiety with the Fenerbahce fans, raising fears he could be moving to the Scottish Premiership in the next window.
Rangers will see David Bates leave Ibrox this summer, and bringing in a central defender is likely. Bruno Alves may also be looking towards the exit.
But it’ll have to be established whether Gerrard really wants Skrtel at Rangers or whether it’s just media games.
The Slovakian has played 20 League games for Fenerbahce and is under contract with the club until 2020.
