The two loans of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo have been a big success for Barcelona so far this season, certainly helping them with their title challenge.

Felix looks to be doing everything he can to make a return to Atletico Madrid impossible, and Cancelo is thought to be very keen on staying with the Blaugrana.

Cancelo’s situation with Manchester City isn’t thought to be as toxic as Felix at Atletico, but it’s been reported repeatedly that Pep Guardiola didn’t see a starting place for the Portugal international, and that saw the two men fall out.

Subsequently, the loan to Barcelona was arranged, and Spanish newspaper AS now reports efforts will quickly be made to keep him.

They quote Barcelona president Joan Laporta as saying: “Cancelo and Felix have been playing at a high level since they arrived. The club could keep them for future seasons. We plan to begin negotiations for them shortly.”

According to AS, Barcelona could offer around €20m for Cancelo, and the Spanish newspaper believes this may be enough because Manchester City don’t want to keep the player.

That sounds very optimistic on behalf of the Catalan club, and it’s surely likely Manchester City would ask for more.
