It’s no secret that Barcelona are working on multiple outgoing transfers this month, and one of them is the departure of Samuel Umtiti.
The Catalan side seem to be struggling a little to find clubs who are interested in the 28-year-old, and according to Sport today, Newcastle United are their biggest ‘hope’.
The outlet writes that Barça ‘offered’ the defender to the Magpies via intermediaries, and are still to receive a response from the Premier League side.
Meanwhile, there are failed talks with French clubs, besides Besiktas and Roma, as none of them seem to be able to afford a big part of his salary, which stands at €9m per season.
That’s why Newcastle becomes an obvious option, and Barcelona are now said to be waiting for a ‘last minute move’ from the Magpies to sign Umtiti.
Sport points out that the St. James’ Park side are currently working on the signing of Sven Botman from Lille, but with more than a little bit of pessimism regarding that move, there’s more hope that the Barça player could be the alternative.
