Edin Dzeko’s future is becoming more and more of an important topic over in Italy, especially with AS Roma readying themselves to start a new cycle by throwing out the old and bringing in some new.
The 33-year-old has been an excellent servant to the Serie A side ever since joining from Manchester City back in 2016, but there’s a feeling his time has come, and fresh blood needs to be signed.
West Ham have been the main club mentioned over and over again by the Italian press, and while Inter have also appeared regularly, their interest is largely reliant on the Mauro Icardi situation.
Friday is no different, as Gazzetta dello Sport explain the Hammers and Everton both want the Bosnia international, for whom Roma will ask around €20m (it used to be €30m) even though they reckon he’s only worth €10m or so.
Considering Dzeko is 33 and has just one year left on his contract come June, paying anything above €15m (and we’re being generous) would be throwing money down the drain.
Gazzetta aren’t the only ones bringing up West Ham’s interest, as Il Messaggero also mention the Hammers (ignoring the Toffees altogether) and state the striker is ‘flattered’ by the interest the Premier League club have shown in him, even if ‘he is waiting for Inter’ to come knocking.
That’s certainly positive news (the him being flattered part, not the Inter bit), but the first step will be convincing AS Roma to let him go for less than their slightly over the top valuation of the player.
Once that’s done, the rest should be relatively easy.
