For a long time, we’ve been seeing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves being linked to a move to Barcelona.
This rumour has been on for years now, not only because of the potential the 25-year-old has always shown, but also because his agent Jorge Mendes has been involved in many operations with the Catalan side lately.
It turns out that as newspaper Mundo Deportivo today writes about Barça’s chase for a new midfielder, they rule out the chase for the Wolves star.
The newspaper explains that the Camp Nou side look for a replacement for Sergio Busquets, who’s been their main defensive midfielder for so long now.
And when speaking of Ruben Neves, they point out that the Wolves player has never featured in that specific role.
Instead of standing alone in front of the defence like the Spaniard does, the Portugal international actually always played with another midfielder by his side.
That’s why he’s not the kind of player they want, and it’s even said Barcelona ‘do not understand’ why he’s been reported as their target for so long now.
Looking at the upcoming transfer windows, they’d rather sign Martin Subimendi from Real Sociedad.
