Paris Saint Germain are ‘not letting go’ of their dream of signing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City and are now planning a third attempt to sign him.
That’s according to Le 10 Sport, who say they are not letting go of their prey and considering a fresh approach in 2024.
They explain that after trying to sign Silva from Manchester City in 2022 and again this summer, they want a third shot at the target.
They’ve been keen on a move for the Portuguese midfielder for years, even before the arrival of Luis Campos as director of football and head of recruitment.
The Manchester City star was even part of the discussions between PSG and Kylian Mbappe, with the Frenchman keen on seeing the midfielder arrive to play alongside him.
Campos was therefore ‘busy trying to make a move’ but found City completely unwilling to do business, giving an immediate no to any questions and vetoing the transfer.
Silva was also not pushing for the transfer to happen as he doesn’t want to tarnish his excellent relationship with Manchester City’s leaders and so the first attempt fell by the wayside.
PSG maintained contact with the player in the 2022 winter transfer window, as well as with his agent Jorge Mendes after that first disappointment but another ‘temperature check’ with Manchester City led to another refusal.
They then let the ground lie in January this year but were planning a move for this summer, when Silva was increasingly considering a departure from the Etihad.
Mendes eventually struck an agreement on the player’s part but again City refused to talk about a deal and blocked the player from leaving, especially as he’s contract until 2025.
A deal between the player and City was then struck that he wouldn’t join PSG this summer and a contract was then signed, extending his contract until 2026.
That’s not quite the end of the PSG dream, though, according to Le 10, who say Mendes included a release clause in that contract worth £50m, or €58m.
That’s a ‘more than accessible price’ for PSG and could therefore allow them to finally get their hands on a man they’ve been targeting for a while and where he is considered the missing link.
