Real Betis are confident that Tottenham will buy Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent deal this month, but are not willing to accept a reduced price for the midfielder.
Lo Celso is currently on loan at Spurs, but they have an option to turn that deal into a permanent one for €32m this month.
That price will increase to €40m in the summer, and become mandatory should Tottenham qualify for the Champions League, leading to the belief that Spurs would take the lower price this month.
That is yet to happen, with Lo Celso still struggling to show his best form at the club, having struggled with niggling injuries for much of the campaign.
Betis need the money to do their own business this month and a few days ago we suggested that Tottenham chief Daniel Levy may be using that to try and get Lo Celso for an even lower price.
This was then widely reported in England and appears to have made it back to Spain, with Diario de Sevilla reporting on the issue.
They say that Betis are confident that Tottenham will activate the €32m clause this month, and it is ‘not contemplated’ that they will reduce the price even further, despite their need for the money from any sale of the Argentine.
Betis will instead stick to the agreement they reached last August, which suggests that this could run right until the end of the January transfer window, just as the original negotiations lasted until the final days of the summer transfer window.
